I read your site often and I cannot thank you enough for all the work you put into it. I just dropped an e-mail to a guy I was stationed with at Bentwaters and we were reminising about Christmas times there. Linn, I wish you and your family the best Christmas ever and God Bless

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you & yours.
Great site, I have been on it and used it for quite a few years.
Left Bentwaters in Aug. 1958 & hooked up with a few people through the years using your site.
Thank you for me and I am sure many, many others.

Linn,
I just thought I'd let you know that recently I
spotted, on your Bentwaters website, a message from
someone I knew at RAF Shepherds Grove.
I e-mailed him and we've been joyously corresponding
and reminiscing; thanks to your site.
Best wishes,

Dear Linn,
I hope you don't mind me emailing you but I just wanted you to know
of a remarkable person. His name is Ron Burrell -
I think you may know of him. [Yes, I think I do!
- Linn Barringer]
He helped me find my godparents from Tampa who used to be on the Bentwaters
base 30years ago.
I would like it if you could put a big
thank you on
the airbase message board for me .I am in contact with him and his
wife Pam and have said thank you but I think it would be nice for him
to be recognised.
Yours

Subject: Blount reunion
Hi Linn:
First, more success courtesy of your Website. An aircraft Fuel Systems friend from the 81st TFW, 81st Field Maintenance Squadron (FMS became 81st EMS in the transition between F-4D's to A-10A's), Linwood Blount called me and came by for a visit! We have been in and out of touch over the years (Blount and I met up when he arrived in August of 1978).
Linwood and his wife Sandy (who was on active duty
and arrived in March 1979, serving in the 81st Supply Squadron), lived
at Aldringham
House when I was there (1978 and half of 1979 before
moving to Corner Cottage, Tunstall). Several of us from the 81st Fuel
Systems Shop rented flats in Aldringham House, recently refurbished
by Roy Allen. Besides the Blount, there was A1C Carl and his wife,
SrA Phil "Nat" Nativio and
retired Tsgt. "BB" Butterbaugh and his English wife, Anne,
who was from Halesworth. There was also a 81st Supply Sergeant who drove
refueling trucks on the flightline named Jeff and his English wife.
Blount and Sandy were married in February 1979 during a howling blizzard which closed all of Suffolk, including the base. They were married in the Base Chapel, over by the dorms (long before the housing was built in the farmer's field behind the old gym). I was there and took the only photographs, along with Amn. Steve "Weiss-Dog" Weiss, Amn Winslow and his wife, and Stan Brown, all of us with the 81st FMS. Another guy Blount and Sandy knew from Homestead AFB in Florida was there and I am sorry I cannot remember his name. Blount and Sandy's daughter Ming was born in August 1980 at RAF Lakenheath (it was before RAF Bentwaters had a hospital, all we had was a clinic on Quonset Huts).
Attached is a picture of Blount and I, first from RAF Woodbridge were
we spent most of our tour on Nights (pictured with Tsgt. Walter Barnett
of the 67th ARRS Fuel Shop) and then a current one taken last week in
my home in Sacramento.
I thought you'd get a kick out of this story and our reunion. We had a great day together telling stories, good and bad. Linwood met my son Peter and Peter got to hear crazy stories about his old man, "The Jolly Joker." We got to remember many friends and we urge all you old Crippled Creek Dogs out there not to wait! Get together, hoist a few pints and laugh. Looking forward to finding more mates who served at RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge!
My best wishes to you Linn and as always, thanks for the memories and the ability to stay connected with so many people and memories that would otherwise be lost out there somewhere!

I returned from a week away to find both your telephone message and
your email.
You've done it again! The message you forwarded was indeed
from a very dear friend of mine we had completely lost contact with for
some 30 years. I have sent him a reply and he has responded. We are now
engaged in catching up with all that has happened to us since last we
saw each other.
Thank you so much. I know how much time and effort
you put into the Bentwaters website (and others). It is good to know
that so much good comes from all that effort, and it is especially satisfying
for me to be one of the receipients of your good work.
Cheers
Park

Subject: Fantastic help from your web Bentwaters site
Dear Linn,
Just a short note to say that we have found the Fortis family - but
unfortunately they are not Joe's 'blood' relatives - The Fortis family
were really helpful and totally understood our reasons for our call
- Bless them.
HOWEVER - Joseph Fortis married Joe Devlin's
mother - after Joe was born and is not Joe's dad. So, no cigar yet
- but the info we have now found out is AMAZING. Joseph Fortis died
in 1976 in Turkey whilst still serving in the USAF - he was a lovely
chap. Ann (Joseph's wife and Joe's mother) went back to America with
her child - a sister Joe never knew he had.
So the search is now
on for his sister - last known to be in Carolina. And for Joe's mother
- she re-married and lives in Florida !!!
Thanks to you guys we found out SO MANY things.
Before, these two people
- Joseph and Ann Fortis - were just names on a Marriage Certificate
- now they are REAL people with family and stories. We have really
started to flesh the bones out on this mystery.
It is a shame that we are back to square one as far as it comes to
Joe Devlin's Dad. That is a bit frustrating - but he has gained a
sister so it more than makes up for now.
Would we be able to trace Ann Devlin - through her pension from the
USAF ?? as Joseph Fortis died whilst still in service ??
Once again - I must thank ALL of your contacts who helped us find
the Fortis family - They were the 1st people who picked up the phone
to us when we went through those phone lists you gave to us - so
it was all quite a shock !!!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS - YOU GUYS ARE ANGELS THAT'S FOR SURE !
We hope to have an update for you very very soon !
Bye for now,
Much love,
Alison and Joe.
