I just got thru looking at the pics of the Aerial gunnery camp at Wheelus AFB. Boy those guys had it made, they were actually quartered in a real building.

Aerial gunnery camp at Wheelus AFB

I made 2 trips to Wheelus with the 92nd for the gunnery camp. Don't remember the exact dates but had to be between 1951 and 1954. They had us exiled to the other side of the runway from the main base, next to the sea. We lived in tents and had a shower tent for cold water showers. Needless to say we didn't take too many showers.

Always checked our shoes before putting them on in the morning in case a scorpion had decided to spend the night in one. There had been reports of some stung that way. Oh well, anyway it was an experience to remember.
